Virtuallu nothing is known of this shaft. Its location is shown on a plan provided by Cornwall Consultants for a property search at a nearby house. Interestingly, the Oxford Archaelogy project did not record this shaft at all. Given its location, it will have been associated with Firs Quarry and possibly that it is a duplication of an existing Fir Quarry shaft

Google Earth suggests that it is now lost in the grounds of the Combe Down House Surgery.

Alternative Names: Combe Down Quarries, Combe Down Quarry, Firs Quarry, Firs Mine

Notes: Combe Down Quarry is the collective name for a collection of quarries including Firs Quarry, Byfield Mine, Allotments Quarry and Coxe's Quarry which started life as separate workings but gradually merged into one giant network covering more than 10 hectares
