This shaft is shown as "Shaft reported capped" on a desk-top search, based on maps, plans and records carried out by Cornwall Consultants for the property of Glen View, Williamstowe, Bath. They concluded the shaft lies within the western boundary of the former Firs Mine.
The desk-top search suggested the underground workings date from before 1850 and that quarrying in this area ceased about 1880, with some minor activity until about 1920.
Willies et al (2011) recorded the site as Shaft 2159 but otherwise little is known of this shaft.
The shaft is believed lost.
Alternative Names: Combe Down Quarries, Combe Down Quarry, Firs Quarry, Firs Mine, H1
Notes: Combe Down Quarry is the collective name for a collection of quarries including Firs Quarry, Byfield Mine, Allotments Quarry, Coxe's Quarry and more which started life as separate workings but gradually merged into one giant network covering more than 10 hectares.
The desk-top search by Corwall Consultants refers to the property as Glen View, but the house is now named Homeleigh.
