This open quarry has been working since 1850, moving gradually southwest from its original location as Lawn Quarry. It is the last surviving working quarry in Bath and is has been worked by three generations of the Hancock family, using up to five cranes at the quarry. Extraction is currently limited to a maximum of 5,000 tonnes per annum, by surface extraction.

Alternative Names: Lodge Style Quarry

Notes: Bath Stone from Upper Lawn Quarry has been used recently for restoration work at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and Brighton Pavilion. The surface quarry was unusual in using petrol saws to cut the stone, using moveable timber and iron shelters.
