Firs Quarry Shaft L1

Combe Down, Bath.

The L1 shaft was observed during the stabilisation survey as being in close proximity to shafts K1, to the west and L4, to the southwest, leading to some considerable instability in the area. Attempts had been made to stabilise the area underground with stone packs.

The shaft is not shown on large scale Victorian Ordnance survey maps of the nineteenth century and is now lost now believed lost under the road, Berkeley Place. Hoever its location appears to coincide with a manhole shown on Google Earth.
