The surface workings of Lawn Quarry began in approximately 1850. They were then located immedietely south of where Rockery Park is now, but as the stone was extracted, the quarry was backfilled. The backfilled area is now either gardens, playing fields or housing in St Winifred's Drive and Rookery Park.
