Quarry Bottom has two entrances side by side. This was the primary entrance blocked by a 2.5 m stone wall after quarrying ceased, probably in the mid 19th century. At some point, the wall was bypassed by a later passageway immediately to the west, but separate from the Firs Quarry - Quarry Bottom (West) entrance.
Alternative Names: Combe Down Quarries, Combe Down Quarry, Firs Quarry, Firs Mine, Ivy House Exit
Notes: It would have been the location at which the surface working Jones Quarry began underground quarrying. The alternative name of Ivy House Exit was used by the by the Oxford Archaeology Unit (Willies et al., 2011) during the infilling and stabilisation of Firs Quarry.
