This shaft is something of an enigma!. It is not recorded in the GIS data of the Stabilisation Project and it does not appear on the 25 inch Nineteenth Century Ordnance Survey maps. However, it does appear on the , where it is labelled as "Shaft or edge of Crown Hole". It is also shown on a 2026 large scale plan accessible through the BaNES website for planning applications.

Notes: The Oxford Archaeology 1:100 underground survey locates this as Byfield Quarry.
