This is a stone archway entrance. It is possibly an underground quarry worked by William Smith in the early 19th Century.
The tunnel is made of unmortared scappled freestone blocks, and has fallen in about 10 metres from the entrance in addition to evidence of backfilling. It undoubtedly led to underground workings
The entrance is located onthe north side of Summer Lane.
Alternative Names: Kingham Field Quarry, William Smith Mine
