Wooster (1978) described Crossways Quarry East as once having extensive workings and the quarry was definrtely working in 1839. Indeed the site is clearly shown on mid-nineteenth century large scale Ordnance Survey maps but extraction was apparantly concluded by 1904. the quarry is infilled and levelled and the site is now occupied by a St Peter & St Paul Roman Catholic church, a small housing estate and a telephone exchange.
It is not known whether there were any underground workings.
Alternative Names: None recorded.
Notes: An auction notice in the Bath Herald on Saturday 21 February states that Crossways Quarry contained "most valuable Beds of Stone, applicable for Paving and Staircase work, together with the FIELD adjoining the same, formerly containing 7 Acres, a small portion only of which has been quarried, and the remainder of about 5 Acres is supposed to contain the same valuable Beds of Stone as the portion which is now being worked."
