The shaft in the garden of 3 Great Orchard, was used during the Second World War as a ventilation shaft and also to hoist waste ash to the surface from the coal fired boilers.
Alternative Names: None recorded.
Notes: It has been suggested this was constructed in the nineteenth century but it does not appear on contemporary OS maps. It was probably sunk by the Ministry of Supply after they has requisitioned Westwood Quarry.
