This shaft accesses a section of the quarry used during the Second World War by the British Museum amongst others for the storage of national treasures. It was used to move coal down to the underground boilers. Since 1987, Wansdyke Securities have used this area for secure storage.
Alternative Names: None recorded.
Notes: This shaft has been described as a ventilation shaft for the nineteenth centiry quarry but it does not appear on contemporary maps. It was probably construced in the Second World War by the Ministry of Supply when they took over the quarry to use it for storage.
