Sandford Hill Mine No.4

Sandford Quarry, Sandford Hill.

A mine located on the very summit of the hill. This site lay just east of High Mine, next to the summit trig point. One local legend suggested that the fabled lost Gulf lay somewhere nearby. A twisting 12m deep shaft led to a small chamber, where a further 2m drop reached a pool. A mined out calcite vein could be followed east for 20m, while a blocked passage to the west probably once connected with High Mine. Sadly the mine has been quarried away.
