Labelled as Machinery Lift ML1 on plan of Spring Quarry (1942) in Secret Underground Cities by Nick McCamley (1998. Spring Quarry is divided into three major areas separated by geological faults. It was taken over by the Navy in 1937. 42 entrances including 10 air shafts. Slope shafts 'A' and 'C' had personnel escalators. Slope shaft 'D' sunk by War Dept. Slope shaft 'B' was the original Spring Quarry shaft. Emergency exit via slope shaft 'E'
