Older section of the main Kingsdown Quarry (Swan Mine) complex. Some of this series is highly unstable and parts are very unpleasant. The Western Series has more than twenty entrances. This area is shown as "Old Quarries" on the 1923 OS 1:10560 map
Alternative Names: Kingsdown, Kingdown Quarry, King's Down Quarry, Ashley Wood
Notes: Kingsdown Quarry (Swan Mine) has as a well preserved crane and remnants of a second crane as well as many other points of interest. Stone was removed by horse and cart. It has been little vandalized and should remain that way!
