This is a very unusual mine with slope shaft access into the underground quarry, which is on two levels connected with a stone staircase and a vertical shaft.
It is believed that the workings were connected underground to the Hartham Park Quarry workings in 2018.
Alternative Names: Brewer's Yard Mine, Brewer's Yard Quarry, Brewer's Mine
Notes: The underground quarry was worked around the 1880s by a Mr Brewer who had also worked on Box Tunnel. A collapse prevented the removal of many blocks of ashlar, which had been stacked ready for transfer to the surface.
In the summer of 2016, the slope shaft was gated and notices forbidding entry were posted by the quarrying company, Hansons. In 2019, plans were submitted to Wiltshire Council for the construction of a new inclined mine entrance from the surface into the existing underground workings, and the construction of ancillary surface facilities including new cutting shed/workshop, and block storage area.
