The northern area of Box ceased working in 1968. The Clift entrance had been used up until then as the main narrow gauge railway line access route. The entrance is now gated and locked.
Alternative Names: Clift Entrance, The Letterbox
Notes: The entrance is a steel door with a 'letterbox' opening for access for bats. The door is for emergency rescue access only and the key is held by the MOD Police on behalf of Heidelberg Materials, the owners of the underground workings.
