Small (about 4.6 square miles) quarry connecting to the southern end of Spring Quarry. The Bath and Portland Stone Company started quarrying in 1890 but stopped in 1912. It was requisitioned by the War Department during the Second World War.
In 2018, a huge steel plate was welded onto the steel bars at the base of the slope shaft.
Alternative Names: Sands Quarry, Westwells Quarry
Notes: Blocked connection into Spring Quarry. 138,234 square feet total area. Closed 1912
There were proposals in July 2015 to develop the site - " The scheme would develop the former Second World War refugee camp and stone quarry which has stood empty for a number of years.
At the centre of the proposals are plans for a small business park, including 10,000 square metres of office space for start-up and small to medium sized hi-tech businesses, as well as parking."
