The first recorded note of any cave on Mendip concerns this site recorded by Henry of Huntingdon in his book Historia Anglorum in about 1135.

Alternate Names: Carcer Aeoli; Cheddar Rocks, Cheddar Hole

Notes: Several theories to the cave location have been made one stating that the Lost Cave of Cheddar could be Wookey Hole.
