Avoncliff Adit

West of Avoncliff, Avon Valley.

NGR:Not recorded
WGS84:Not recorded
Length:0 m
Depth:0 m
Altitude:0 m
Tags:Mine
Registry:wbc

An adit to the west of Avoncliff Quarry. It was kept open for ventilation and as an emergency exit, but a locked gate now prevents entry into the tunnels.

Alternate Names: None recorded.

Notes: Document G13/154/12 at the Wiltshire and Swindon Archive has the title: 'Construction of adit at Avoncliff' and is dated 1934. Nothing more is known of this site and the 1934 date suggests that it is not Godwin's Quarry entrance into the westwood Quarry complex although a Bradford on Avon Museum webpage describes it as "An adit to the west of Avoncliff Quarry. It was kept open for ventilation and as an emergency exit, but a locked gate now prevents entry into the tunnels."
