This small mound appears on old maps marked as a disused shaft. However, it is in fact the site of the chimney for a lost Pattinson plant, a process patented in 1833 for the extraction of silver from lead. The flue feeding the chimney is still visible but the rest of the plant was dismantled in 1968.
