According to local folklore, every seven years a stream bursts forth from this large limestone hole (8m wide x 4m across x 3m deep) and rushes down the side of the road 'strong enough to turn a mill'. In times gone by it was believed to herald the start of a war. The stream can become so powerful that even filling it with stones fails to curb the flow.
Alternative Names: Brockley Combe Spring - 4, Willis's Batch Spring
