Dr. William Iredale Stanton, 1930 to 2010

Willie was a pupil at Sidcot School and a very active member of the Sidcot School Speleological Society, which laid the foundations of his future life. He studied geology at Imperial College London, taking this forward as a career in Angola, Lisbon and as a consultant for Bristol Avon River Authority. Discovered the Black Hole Series in Swildon's Hole, opened the Ninth Chamber in Wookey Hole to tourists and improved access to Cheddar Caves. Digging in Reservoir Hole, Swildon's Hole, Grebe Swallet to mention just a few.

The original Log Books are in the Wells and Mendip Museum.
