In 2013, a sink opened up in the bed of the River Trym in Badock's Wood. It swallowed the entire stream in low flow, but now appears to be blocked. The destination of the water remains unknown, although it possibly fed springs rising in the base of a lake in the nearby Shellard's (Southmead) Quarry. A reported bricked-up adit by the side of the lake is actually part of an old limekiln.
