This slope shaft is approximately 250 metres southeast of Upper Westwood Farm and is marked on old OS maps. The entrance is easily recognisable by the large steel door.
Alternate Names: Westwood Stone Quarry
Notes: It was reported by Tucker (1977) that this slope shaft had collapsed and subsequently had been filled with waste mushroom compost. However, this report is in the context of the Gripwood/Woodside quarries, more than 1 km away, although it continues to discuss the quarries at Westwood. The area was being tipped on in 1984 and it is thought that the slope shaft is now full at least halfway with clay and other debris. In 2017, the entrance was a large locked steel door.
